Why I started my Society 6 shop...
Reason number one: Okay, the long and skinny of the matter is simple. I have always wanted to have a Society 6 shop. Silly? Maybe. But I started this whole venture with hand lettering and painting signs so it always seemed like such a fun thing to do!! Kind of like hosting your first giveaway on social media. I think I was originally deterred by the low margins until I attempted to produce a few products myself. It makes absolutely no sense for me to manufacture, package and ship prints or any of the products that I can offer on Society 6. They have a huge variety of items!! Like an impressive amount. From water bottles to stickers to shower curtains and beach towels.
I have put it off very literal years which is nuts because it was a relatively low time commitment and pretty simple to set up. Liz Koehler Brown has a lovely little Skillshare that is very informative on the matter. It’s almost worth setting up the shop just for the fun mock ups. I love mock ups. As you’ll see below.
Reason number two: I had a bunch of lonely little artwork just sitting there in procreate patiently awaiting the slightest glimpse of daylight. Now that I have niched down to weddings and events (btw niching down is one of the best decisions I’ve made in my biz- hello to tripling my income bb) I don’t really have an outlet for all of my lettering projects that I still very much enjoy. So Society 6 is a great way for me to scratch that itch without taking away much time from main star of my business (invitations and day of details.)
Reason number three: I’m really excited to be able to create a few things that I actually want for myself! Ha. But seriously. It’s the little things in life. I’m a notebook whore and I’m super picky about them so why not make one that I really love? And how fun is it to have a coffee cup with your very own writing on it? Just me?
The margins aren’t going to make me a millionaire any time soon but they are decent considering the fact that they host the site, manufacture, produce, pack and ship the product. And we all know that shipping is the worst thing.
That’s all I got. I published a few designs just this weekend so we will see how it goes 💁🏻♀️ Could be fun, could be completely and entirely pointless, who knows!!
Let me know what you think if you would be so obliged to check out the shop!
